How Can a Kid Follow Jesus

by Devotional Staff

I KNOW IT, I LIVE IT, AND I LOVE IT!

A Kid’s Coloring Printout about “How to Be A Child of God”?

Following Jesus and doing what is right is a wonderful aspiration for a child. Here are some practical steps for a kid to follow Jesus and do what is right:

  • Learn about Jesus✝️: Read child-friendly Bible stories about Jesus. Understanding who Jesus is and what He taught is the first step in following Him.
  • Pray🙏 : Encourage the child to talk to Jesus through prayer. They can share their thoughts, feelings, and concerns with Him.
  • Attend/Participate in Spiritual Services🎉 : Attend a local church with the child to learn more about Jesus, listen to Bible teachings, and engage in a supportive Christian community or charitable works.
  • Memorize Bible Verses 📝: Help the child memorize simple Bible verses that teach about love, kindness, and following Jesus.
  • Be Kind and Loving❤️: Teach the child the importance of treating others with kindness and love, just as Jesus did.
  • Obey Parents and Authorities⚖️🧑‍⚖️: Instruct the child to obey their parents, teachers, and other authorities in their life. This reflects the biblical principle of honoring and obeying those in authority.
  • Share with Others🤝 : Encourage the child to share with others and be generous. This can be through sharing toys, helping a friend, or showing kindness to siblings.
  • Forgive Others 💐:  Teach the child the concept of forgiveness. Help them understand that forgiving others is something Jesus teaches and practices.
  • Read Child-Friendly Devotionals 📚: Provide age-appropriate devotionals or Christian storybooks for kids. These resources can help reinforce biblical principles in a way that is engaging for children.
  • Ask Questions🙋 : Create an environment where the child feels comfortable asking questions about Jesus, faith, and the Bible. Answering their questions will help them grow in understanding.
  • Serve Others 💜: Look for opportunities for the child to serve others, whether it’s helping a neighbor, participating in a community service project, or assisting at church events.
  • Practice Gratitude 😃: Teach the child to express gratitude for the blessings in their life. A thankful heart is a key aspect of following Jesus.
  • Model Christ-Like Behavior💪 : Children often learn by example. Model Christ-like behavior in your own life, showing them what it means to follow Jesus.
  • Encourage Bible Reading📖: As the child grows, introduce them to age-appropriate Bible reading. This can be done through story Bibles, illustrated Bible passages, or child-friendly translations.
  • Pray for Others 💞:  Teach the child to pray not only for themselves but also for others who may be going through difficult times or facing challenges.

Remember that nurturing a child’s faith is a gradual process. Encourage open communication, provide positive examples, and create a supportive environment for the child to grow in their understanding and love for Jesus.
